A Note From Us

You may notice things look a little different in the briefing this week. We are aware that Covid still has an impact on the day-to-day work that you do, however guidance updates are less frequent and there is lower prevalence in the community. There is still an update on the Covid position towards the end of the newsletter for the time being.

We are keen to continue having open lines of communication, so please fill out this quick and easy (1 question only!) feedback form to let us know what you want from this briefing moving forward, including whether further Covid updates are needed.

Feedback Form

Please also join us for the Provider Webinar and Q&A with Mel Lock (Director of Adult Social Care) next Wednesday the 1st of June from 9am to 10am. She will be joined by other members of the team at Somerset County Council, including Rachel Handley (Public Health) to talk about the mental health and emotional wellbeing of the adult social care workforce.

Please join us via the Teams Meeting Link. A recording will be available for viewing afterwards.

Training Resource Spotlight:
Dementia Training

Each week we are highlighting a different section of the training resources on our website. Following on from Dementia Awareness Week last week, we want to highlight some of the Dementia related training resources we have available.

Survey for those over 70 or with long term health conditions

A new survey has been launched by the PH behavioural science unit, specifically for those who are over 70 and those with long term health conditions.

Here is a link to the survey: https://forms.office.com/r/bb0U2E0b0p

We would like to hear directly from this group, so we would be grateful if you could share this survey with your service users where appropriate.

Individual experience of living through the pandemic is important, as the pandemic has changed many aspects of life and has impacted us all in different ways. This survey aims to find out experiences of the impact of Covid-19 and how people are adjusting back to “normal” life, now that there are no longer any restrictions.

The results of this survey will help us to inform the public health schemes that will support groups of people in this next phase of the pandemic. There are no right or wrong answers. Responses to this survey will be completely confidential and securely stored, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). No information that will identify individuals will be recorded in any reports.

We aim to use the results to identify what support might be required for these population groups, since Covid-19 restrictions have now been lifted.

New Upcoming Events

'Roots and Boots' Memory Group - Taster Sessions
Please see the poster for a brand new group at Carymoor for people with dementia and their carers. Based on a beautiful nature reserve near Castle Cary, attendees can take part in gardening tasks, nature walks and art and craft activities.

The taster sessions are on Wednesday 8 June and Friday 24 June from 10.30am until noon.

They will need to be reasonably mobile to get around the site and anyone wishing to join needs to contact Jackie Gage (jackie.gage@carymoor.org.uk) or call to book one of the 12 places per session. Also, they will need to be able to get themselves to the site.

We hope, in due course, to be able to get some funding to provide funding for people who have no other way of getting there, but thought we would start small with two tasters and see how it goes.

If you have any questions please ask Sue Crisfield (Sue.Crisfield@sparksomerset.org.uk) or Jackie Gage (jackie.gage@carymoor.org.uk).

Upcoming Event Reminders
