The RCPA and P2C are hosting a joint event with funding from Skills for Care and we would very much like to hear from you about what would benefit you and your service. This could be presentations from key note speakers from the Social Care field, connecting you with other Care Providers, learning more about international recruitment, introducing you to training or development opportunities, and more!

We know how precious your time is, so we want to tailor this event to be as useful as possible. We are holding the event on Thursday 8th June 2023 at Canalside, Bridgwater and at around lunchtime for a few hours (light refreshments available); there are other options listed in the survey in case that timing doesn't suit your schedules.

Please fill out your preferences in the questionnaire to help us build a truly valuable event for you and your teams.

If you could kindly complete by Tuesday 2nd May as to enable us to organise speakers and source materials.

Many thanks.

Staff Appreciation

We know you have some amazing staff on your team, and we want to share the fantastic work they do for a social media campaign around social care heroes! If you have an employee of the month or any staff members who you want to highlight, please email proudtocare@somerset.gov.uk with a photo and a description of why you are thankful for them.

Somerset Care Provider Survey (2023)

Today marks the launch of our 2023 Care Provider survey. Our last survey was undertaken during the pandemic back in June 2021, seeking to understand how supported providers had felt and what more assistance was needed. At this time, 88% of survey respondents reported feeling well or very well supported by the Somerset health and care system. A number of 'asks' were made to continue to progress certain areas in partnership. These included: fair rates of pay; more work to support care sector recruitment/retention/training; recognising care providers as equal partners that are part of the solution to shared challenges; more investment in communities and micro-provision; and continued communication, collaboration, support and engagement with a 'one stop shop' website.

In response to the feedback, a range of work was undertaken which included the development of a provider engagement website, these continued weekly provider briefings, the re-launching of monthly Learning Engagement Meetings, investment in Proud to Care Somerset and recruitment campaigns and more!

We are really keen to hear again from you, whatever type of care provision you work within, as we look to review the local Health (NHS Somerset) and Social Care (Somerset Council) system's existing support offer and ensure it meets your wants and needs wherever possible. This might include the support of our sourcing care service, quality improvement/CHC teams, safeguarding or social work teams; or the input from LARCH or our Enhanced Health in Care Homes Clinical Leads for example.

We really value your time in responding to this survey, which will close on Wednesday 31st May 2023. Please share with your teams and networks.

Help make Somerset more accessible: your views needed

A year-long project to make Somerset more accessible for Disabled people was launched on 1 April 2023.

‘Accessible Somerset’ is an ambitious project which will ask Disabled people how their life could be improved in various areas. The project is seeking volunteers to share their views and is asking for individuals and organisations to get involved by contacting Disability.Inc@wecil.org.uk.

‘Accessible Somerset’ will begin by working with local Disabled people and organisations to help map the areas of need across Somerset. This will help to identify the key areas of focus for the project.

To deliver this project, Somerset Council has teamed up with WECIL Ltd – a Disabled People’s Organisation who offer a range of services which support independent living. WECIL have been working with both public and private sector organisations since 2016, supporting senior management teams, HR professionals and Equality Diversity and Inclusion officers to create accessible, inclusive environments.

If you would like to be involved in the project, please contact Kinny Chinangwa or Alison Browning at Disability.Inc@wecil.org.uk.
