Covid Vaccination

This year’s autumn flu and COVID-19 vaccine programmes will start earlier than planned in England as a precautionary measure following the identification of a new COVID-19 variant.

The precautionary measure is being taken to deliver greater protection, support those at greatest risk of severe illness and reduce the potential impact on the NHS.

The decision means those most at risk from winter illness - including people in care homes for older people, the clinically vulnerable, those aged 65 and over, health and social care staff, and carers - will be able to access a COVID vaccine in September. The annual flu vaccine will also be made available to these groups at the same time wherever possible.

Those eligible for vaccination are encouraged to take up the offer of the vaccine as soon as they are called to ensure they head into winter with the best protection.

Technology Enabled Care Workshops

This month, we held Technology Enabled Care workshops at our Independent Living Centres and virtually.

Technology Enabled Care (TEC) can be used to help people live longer, healthier and more independent lives. This could include helping manage health conditions, reducing the risk of falls or making daily living tasks easier.
The workshops encouraged attendees to try different types of technology and included presentations from experts on how service users could use technology to prolong their independence in the future. This workshop consisted of people who use services and their carers. Using the feedback we received in the sessions, we will improve how Technology Enabled Care is implemented in Somerset. In 6 months, there will be a follow up workshops where we show how feedback from individuals who attended the events has been used to develop TEC Services in Somerset.

You can watch a video of the event here https://youtu.be/bry7afRYW3c

Our Independent Living Centres help people in Somerset find equipment and solutions to stay active, independent and make life easier.

We offer free practical advice, which is why you can trust us to guide you through the options to suit you.
