Refreshed Equipment in Care Homes Policy

Last month we began the refresh of the Equipment in Care Homes policy in collaboration with those that access it. The focus of this activity is to remove the ambiguity surrounding the responsibility of the provision, address the language used in the policy so that we all understand it and add in details that will aid in the understanding of the changing equipment provision.

The policy is in place to:
  • To clarify the relationship between the Community Equipment Service and registered care homes in Somerset
  • To underpin commissioner’s obligations to care homes for adults and older people.
  • Provide assessment guidance to prescribers.
  • Provide guidance to care home proprietors regarding funding responsibilities.
We are holding 1-hour, online meetings every 4-6 weeks for the next 6 months or so and would like to have a full understanding of how the policy works for our providers. The next date booked is the 25th of July 3pm to 4pm. If you are a residential provider and would like to be involved in this activity, please contact Meriel Price, meriel.price@somerset.gov.uk to make further enquires or to be added to the invite list.
