Weather warning: Yellow Heat Health Alert, 23 June - 26 June

A Yellow Heat-Health Alert has been issued for the South West and is in effect between Friday 23 June 2023 at 09:00 and Monday 26 June 2023 at 09:00.

Significant impacts are possible across the health and social care sector due to the high temperatures, including: observed increase in mortality across the population likely, particularly in the 65+ age group or those with health conditions, but impacts may also be seen in younger age groups; increased demand for remote health care services likely; internal temperatures in care settings (hospitals and care homes) may exceed recommended threshold for clinical risk assessment; impact on ability of services to be delivered due to heat effects on workforce possible and many indoor environments likely to be overheating, risk to vulnerable people living independently in community as well as in care settings.

Somerset PAMMS Implementation Update – June 2023

We were keen to share a detailed further update on progress to date relating to the use of a new system, PAMMS (Provider Assessment and Market Management Solutions) the Council and NHS Somerset has adopted to support quality and contractual assurance activity here in Somerset and beyond. This builds on previous updates, and the information shared at the Registered Care Providers Association in May 2023. The update report captures FAQs you may have about PAMMS, as well as care provider feedback from our piloting activity that has been underway since the autumn of 2022. The update also clarifies plans for the roll out of shorter quarterly provider returns (commencing from July 2023) to all NHS / Local Authority commissioned care providers (with PAMMS replacing Sundown Solutions Ltd as the mechanism through which these returns are to be submitted). Sundown Solutions is being de-commissioned next month.

The NHS and Social Care Coronavirus Life Assurance Scheme

This scheme provides financial support to families and dependents of eligible health and social care staff who sadly died from Covid-19 contracted while delivering frontline care during the pandemic. The scheme pays a tax-free lump sum of £60,000 to the deceased’s appropriate person, regardless of their salary. Full details of the scheme and the claim form are available here: NHS and Social Care Coronavirus Life Assurance Scheme 2020 England | NHSBSA

Help shape the future of Treatment Escalation Plans

A treatment escalation plan (TEP) is a valuable document, it enables timely and appropriate decision making in the management of deteriorating individuals.

It is recognised a large cohort of people with active TEP’s in place will be receiving support from a number of health, community and care services.

The TEP form and process is being reviewed in Somerset, we are working towards a system wide approach and agreement to Treatment Escalation plans.

We would value the opinions and support of Care sector colleagues in Somerset as any changes may have a direct impact to current practice in relation to TEP’s.

Please join one of the working groups to have your say.

Free Online Event - Going Digital Myth-Busting with DiSC and RCPA - July 6th

RCPA are pleased to announce that we will be holding a free online event alongside the DiSC team (Digitalisation of Social Care team) on Thursday 6th July at 1.30pm.

There are many digital products and services available to your organisation and it can be hard to know which ones to focus on and how they will benefit your organisation, your staff and clients.

We will be hosting a workshop to answer any questions you may have around adopting digital technologies and services, along with helping you stay safe in the digital world using the DSPT (Data Security & Protection Toolkit). There are currently funding opportunities available to assist your organisation in going digital and this will also be discussed at the event.
