Voter ID pack

The UK Government has introduced a requirement for voters to show photo ID when voting at a polling station at some elections.

This new requirement will apply for the first time in England at the local elections on Thursday 4 May 2023. This applies to the local election in Taunton on that date.

The Electoral Commission has released a set of resources for supporting older people and other groups who may experience barriers in preparing for this change.

You can view the resources here: Voter ID - Partner Pack (electoralcommission.org.uk)

Mobilise carers project

Somerset County Council has just started a three month project to reach more unpaid carers in Somerset. The project will prioritise broader engagement with carers and local representatives of the health and care system, with a view to reaching large numbers of unpaid carers across the county and gathering data to inform future service provision.

The focus will be to prevent hospital admission and also to support those already in acute settings to have a smooth discharge back home with the support that they need to continue in their caring role.

Mobilise will work directly with the commissioned Carers Service, particularly with the Community Council for Somerset Agents based within the Acutes to ensure that targeted information about this support offer will be given to Carers and their families.

Carers will also be targeted specifically through a digital campaign, linking in with Somerset County Council’s communications lead and the communications team within Somerset Carers Service.
