Great news for Independent Living Centres in Somerset

More positive news for Somerset residents this week with confirmation that a new Independent Living Centres is to be developed in Bridgwater (and a training, information and assessment hub within Minehead) funded from the governments ‘levelling-up funds’. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-64330190

The Bridgwater centre, which is expected to be open in 2025, will be co-located in the Old Bridgwater Hospital and form part of an Academy for training excellence. The facility will offer extensive integrated training programmes (with a fully equipped ward setting) serving the NHS, local authorities, the voluntary and the private care sectors. The new Bridgwater Independent Living Centre will have its own designated space and demonstration areas, but also next to an integral community café within the new building.

The coming months will see us continue to progress the plans for a new SILC in Yeovil. The new centre will also host a dedicated Technology Enabled Care centre which will showcase the latest technology for people to support them to remain as independent at home

The centres will compliment the existing services in Wellington and Shepton Mallet along with the new centre opening in Yeovil later in 2023. This will give us a countywide network of SILCs, ensuring that people have good access to services to help keep people as independent as possible. https://www.somerset.gov.uk/social-care-and-health/equipment-to-help-you/
