This week in the briefing: an invitation to a Provider Consultation Event on Care Fee Negotiations for 2023/24, information about the Urgent Community Response Pilot and how to get involved, an invitation to take part in the VIVALDI study for asymptomatic Covid testing, a training offer on Prevention and Management of Pressure Ulcers, as well as the usual event reminders.

Provider Consultation Event - Care fee negotiations for 2023/24
Thank you for your on-going support to the Somerset System. As part of the care fee negotiations for 2023/24 we would like to invite you to a provider consultation event taking place on Tuesday 31st January 2023 at Hollinsworth Hall, The Canalside, Marsh Lane, Bridgwater TA6 6LQ or via micro soft teams. The meetings will be an opportunity to share the direction of travel of Adult Social Care in Somerset, update on the Cost of Care exercise that took place in 2022 and to discuss fee levels for the coming financial year.

The event will be split into two sections:

Onboarding of Care Homes onto UCR Pilot
What is Urgent community response
|
- Urgent community response teams provide urgent care to people in their homes which helps to avoid hospital admissions and enable people to live independently for longer
Who providing this support
|
- Urgent community response provided by Somerset Foundation NHS Trust are offering care homes the opportunity to be able to self refer directly to UCR services
UCR services can be considered an alternative to traditional referral routes (999, 111 or GP for some things) for the following 8 out of the 9 pillars set out by NHS England. The aim is to try and free up capacity within the service mentioned and help the system cope with the demand we currently have

- Non injury or minor injury falls
- Urgent catheter care,
- Urgent therapy assessment for mobility
- Urgent equipment needs to support people remain at home and as independent as possible
- End of life support
- Increase or new confusion /delirium
- Increase in frailty
- Diabetic support
Louise Bird is running an onboarding session on Monday 6th February at 11am for an hour and would like to open it up to those residential care homes interested in joining the workstream. It will be a question and answer style session.

VIVALDI Asymptomatic Testing Trial
The faculty of population health, institute of health informatics at University College London are looking for care providers who own or run at least 8 care homes to participate in this study involving asymptomatic testing of staff to inform the approach to Covid in winter 2023.
|
There are financial incentives to taking part.
|
|
|
Prevention and Management of Pressure Ulcers
An interactive training session aimed at Registered Nurses and Health Care Assistants delivered to your Nursing Home care setting. A certificate of attendance for revalidation/portfolio can be provided.
|
The session comprises of:
|
- Prevention- Equipment
- Assessment using the aSSKINg framework
- Labelling/documentation
- Causes Extrinsic/Intrinsic factors
- Categorising Pressure Ulcers
- Pressure Ulcers + End of Life care
- Moisture Lesions + Skin Protection Pathway*
Sessions will last between 1.5 – 2 hours.

Learning Disability Mental Health Upskilling Sessions
Free Mental Health training for the Learning Disability Social Care workforce is available this spring. The hope is that this will help colleagues who support those with a lived experience of mental health, and also explore the different ways in which mental health presents in individuals who also have a Learning Disability.
|
The content has been designed alongside colleagues working in Learning Disability Social Care, and will be delivered by local training partner Optimise.
|
The topics which are covered by the training are:
|
- How dementia presents in individuals with Learning Disabilities
- Suicidal behaviour in individuals with Learning Disabilities
- Dual-diagnosis of mental illnesses and Learning Disabilities
- Borderline Personality Disorder
- Positive behavioural strategies
- Schizophrenia
All sessions run 10am-5pm and are free to attend, but please bring your own lunch.

Dementia Wellbeing Roadshow
The Dementia Wellbeing Service are doing a roadshow in Somerset starting in February.
|
Virtual Dementia Tour (training) will be offered at each location, with two training sessions a day. Each session has 12 spaces. Eventbrite booking will be shared in the coming weeks.
