We're launching a bold social care campaign, and we want YOU to get involved!

We have some very exciting news - as part of our next Proud to Care campaign, we'll be working with a top marketing firm to develop a bold campaign which challenges social perceptions around care.

But we need your help! We want to hear the stories of your careers in care, the satisfaction you get from your role, and the diverse work you carry out. We’d also love to come out and take photos or videos of you working and talking about your work for our campaign.

We are currently planning this and would love your involvement, whether that’s suggestions and ideas or being featured in the campaign, so please get in touch at proudtocare@somerset.gov.uk!

Funding Opportunities

Workforce Development Fund

RCPA are pleased to announce that funding is now available for this year’s Workforce Development Fund and, in partnership with Skills for Care, we are open for claims.

What is the Workforce Development Fund?

The Workforce Development Fund (WDF) is funding from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) disseminated by Skills for Care. It supports the provision of high quality care and the continuing professional development (CPD) of staff across the adult social care sector by providing a contribution towards the costs of vocational learning. The fund allows you to claim back money towards the costs of workers completing a broad range of adult social care qualifications, learning programmes and digital learning modules. To claim funding, an organisation must provide an adult social care service and directly employ care staff within England.

What can be funded

You can claim up to £2,000 per learner per funding year through Workforce Development Fund. You can claim funding for the same learner in multiple funding years, to support their personal development and career progression.

Claim funding towards the cost of listed qualifications, learning programmes and digital learning modules completed between 1 January 2022 and the 31 March 2023. This includes money towards the cost of course fees (or employer contributions) and associated costs such as employees’ salaries whilst they are undertaking training, coaching and mentoring costs, venue costs for the training or wage replacement costs.

A full list of funded qualifications and learning programmes can be found on the Skills for Care website here

We have a finite amount of funding available so if you would like to claim please contact us as soon as possible.

If you are interested in claiming or would like more information then please contact Laura Stooke, Business Manager at RCPA: laura.stooke@rcpa.org.uk
Skills for Care

Individual Employment Funding

Skills For Care are delighted to announce that individual employer funding is now open.

People who employ personal assistants using a social care direct payment from their local authority, a personal health budget from the NHS or their own money (self-funder), can ask for grant funding to pay for learning and development.

Money can pay for the cost of the training for personal assistants to improve their knowledge and skills. It can also be used by individual employers to improve their knowledge and skills as an employer of PAs.

Funding can be granted to cover other costs like hiring or needing a replacement PA whilst their usual PA is attending training during their normal working hours. It can also cover travel costs.

Apply at any time between now and 28 Feb 2023 for funding for training that starts before 31 March 2023.

All information, including guidance (how to apply for funding), application form and FAQs are on the website: www.skillsforcare.org.uk/iefunding

Any queries can be emailed to funding@skillsforcare.org.uk.

Reminder: Register your interest in Digital Social Care Funding

Somerset County Council have secured a fixed amount of funding from the NHS Transformation Directorate Digitising Social Care Programme.

We can offer a 50% contribution by way of a one-off grant payment to support adult social care CQC registered providers to adopt a Digital Social Care Record (DSCR),
from the NHS assured suppliers list

We can also contribute towards buying and setting up Falls Prevention technology.

The project will contribute to the continued development of the evidence base for digital social care records and falls prevention, evaluate the impact and share the benefits across our Integrated Care System footprint. If you are partially or fully digitised already you may still be able to apply for funding.
If you would like to express further interest and receive details about the project please complete this form.

Thank you – The Digital Social Care team

Optimal Handed Care

Good afternoon,

We are excited to invite you to an interactive session where you will learn more about the optimal handed care approach, its benefits and the steps for implementation. We will be looking at the latest evidence, examples and case studies from some of the many local authorities who have already adopted this approach. We will be exploring potential barriers and/or resistance to implementation, as well as solutions to the current challenges from an integrated perspective across all sectors of health and social care. We will have a range of innovative equipment on display including the Robin, ToTo and Molift Raiser, and will be demonstrating use on 5 different workstations.

Who should attend?
All managers, system leaders and directors responsible for hospital discharges and care in the community, as well as clinical leads, commissioners, care providers, moving & handling trainers, key trainers, therapists, social workers, adult social care practitioners, GPs, district nurses, community and village agents, and councillors.

What is Optimal Handed Care?
Optimal Handed Care is a person-centred approach to providing proportionate support. This has numerous benefits, particularly when planning hospital discharges and when individuals wish to stay in their own home. It enables individuals to be actively involved in their care, promoting independence and wellbeing. It improves relationships between the individuals and those providing their care, allowing support to be delivered in a dignified and respectful way. Equipment and techniques are used creatively, so that many individuals can benefit from being supported in their daily activities by just one Care Worker. Regardless of how many people are required to provide support, the Optimal Handed Care approach ensures that care is delivered in the safest, most efficient and effective way for each individual. It is all about achieving positive outcomes for everyone involved.

Where and When?
These four sessions take place over two days in the Hollinsworth Hall of Canalside, Bridgwater on the following dates (each session is a repeat of the first session):

8th November 2022: 0900 to 1230 or 1245 to 1615
