Digital News from RCPA and the DiSC Team:

2022/2023 Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) year completed!

A huge thank you to all Somerset providers who published their DSPT this year. Somerset exceeded the national target of 60% of providers DSPT compliant with 70% of providers being compliant. The Southwest is No.4 for DSPT compliance in England! Thank you to everyone who engaged with the free RCPA DSPT support in Somerset and the free national support from the Better Security, Better Care team. RCPA has been awarded the contract to continue being the local support in Somerset for the 2023/2024 DSPT, so please reach contact our Project Deliver Officer Dan Plummer for free 1-1 support and keep an eye out for webinars and events that RCPA will provide. Email – daniel.plummer@RCPA.org.uk

Next steps for DSPT?

The 2023/2024 DSPT will be going live in the next few weeks, so now is the perfect time to think about republishing. If you recently published the 2022/2023 DSPT then all the evidence, training and audits you provided will still be up to date and can be used on the 2023/2024 DSPT. The national DSPT team will announce when the 2023/2024 DSPT goes live and will contact you directly. If you’ve not yet started with the DSPT then now is the time to start and join the majority of care providers in Somerset who are DSPT compliant. For more information on the DSPT and why you should be completing it please contact our Project Deliver Officer Dan Plummer. Email – daniel.plummer@RCPA.org.uk

CQC on Digital Social Care Records

Following the publication of CQCs guidance on digital social care records and their importance in achieving good outcomes for people we (Digitising Social Care) brought together senior leaders from our digitising social care programme and colleagues from the CQC to discuss it in detail. Mark Topps, a registered manager, and co-presenter at Caring View facilitated the conversation to delve into what it all means for providers. This is the highlight film: CQC and digitising social care - in conversation (highlights)
If you’d like to find out more about adopting Digital Social Care Records and the funding opportunities available, please see the expression of interest form - Digitisation in Social Care (DiSC) - Expression of Interest Form

RCPA Annual Conference and DiSC

The DiSC team along with RCPA’s Dan Plummer will be hosting a Digitalising Social Care workshop at the RCPA Annual Conference on 8th November. LeDeR Annual Report 2022-2023

LeDeR is a national service improvement programme looking at deaths of people with learning disabilities and autistic people. The programme was established in 2017 and is funded by NHS England (NHSE) with the aim of reducing health inequalities and preventing premature mortality by making changes to services both locally and nationally.

LeDeR programme in Somerset

The report updates on service improvement work related to the improvement priorities identified in 2021-2022 and further sets up new goals. The report concludes that there has been an increase in the sign ups to the programme from across the health and social care services.

The appendices of the report contain an easy read version of its findings and latest priorities. You can find the report here: LeDeR Annual Report 2022-2023.

REMINDER: Somerset PAMMS Implementation

PAMMS (Provider Assessment and Market Management Solutions) has been adopted by the Council and NHS Somerset to support quality and contractual assurance activity in Somerset and beyond. Building on previous updates, and the information shared at the Registered Care Providers Association in May 2023, the update report captures FAQs you may have about PAMMS, as well as care provider feedback from our piloting activity that has been underway since the autumn of 2022.
Just over 50% of our providers returned in the soft launch of our first quarter period and we want to thank them for their returns.

For future quarterly submissions, PAMMS will email you a link to relevant forms with the submission deadlines that are as follows:

Skills for Care

The power of registered manager networks – why should you join?

Do you know about the Skills for Care registered manager networks and the benefits of attending?

We’re holding a brand-new event this September aimed at managers from adult social care services who do not attend a local network and want to learn more.

Skills for Care support over 140 networks across England and at this event, we’ll provide more details about how the networks are run, the benefits of attending, and how we continue to raise the profile of registered managers. The event will also include taster sessions where we will talk about topics, issues and challenges that matter to you including recruitment and retention, leadership and management, and good and outstanding provider support.

Thursday 14 September | 10:30 – 12:00 | Zoom | Register now
Being part of a local network has so many benefits:
  • provides a place where you can come together with other managers in your local area
  • share experiences and guidance and support each other’s challenges
  • connect with your peers and feel less isolated.
Our local networks are chaired by managers, for managers and we would love you to come along to this event. Register now to find out more.
