My Time to Care
On Monday 16th, our brand new marketing campaign 'My Time to Care' launches. This campaign was created in collaboration with the NHS and the RCPA.
‘My Time to Care’ was shot entirely in Somerset and stars local carers. The campaign aims to empower carers and show how working in social care in Somerset is a respected, meaningful, and fun career choice.
The campaign emphasises how a career in care in Somerset presents an opportunity to rebel and ‘break free from behind a desk’, embarking on a career filled with meaningful human interaction and job satisfaction. Each video is specifically tailored to target a different age group that may be interested in a career in care.
It's also linked with a recruitment activity, and for that to be successful, we need to know about your vacancies. Please email us at proudtocare@somerset.gov.uk with details (as brief or as detailed as you would prefer) with any vacancies so that we can work with you to place candidates in those roles.

DHSC update: Enforcement of information requirements under section 277A of the Health and Social Care Act 2012
This is an update from DHSC on the enforcement of the Adult Social Care Provider Information Provisions.
DHSC has published enforcement guidance setting out what will happen if a provider does not update their data monthly via Capacity Tracker, as outlined in the guidance on data collection. New guidance has also been added to the page detailing the non-mandated data items collected for operational support.
The enforcement process will focus on supporting providers to comply with the information requirements, with financial penalties normally a last resort.
With kind regards Capacity Tracker Team on behalf of DHSC
Free PPE Scheme Extended
The free PPE scheme will be extended until March 2024, or until DHSC’s stocks are depleted, in order to provide protection for frontline staff against Covid as part of the government’s Living with Covid strategy.
Free, centrally procured PPE helps relieve some of the financial burden of PPE procurement done on an individual basis.
As per the previous commitment, DHSC will still continue to supply all categories of PPE according to demand until the end of March 2023. Further information about the extension and the scheme can be found here.

Reminder: Help with urgent care at home for your patients - within two hours of being referred
Ahead of the planned ambulance and nursing strikes later this month, and with continuing winter pressures, we wanted to remind you, that Somerset Urgent Community Response is here to help your patients over 18, who are at risk of a hospital admission if they are not seen urgently.
Somerset Urgent Community Response provides a two-hour urgent assessment in your care home for patients, who without urgent assessment and follow-on treatment would be at risk hospital admission.
The need for an urgent assessment may be due to a clinical condition such as:
- Falls: Level 1 (no injury falls), level 2 falls (fall with minor injury). Urgent Community Response teams have Mangar lifting equipment at base to respond rapidly to avoid ambulance call outs.
- A new or acute problem (such as an infection), an exacerbation of a chronic condition, where the condition can be safely treated out of hospital, but without treatment may mean that the individual is at risk of hospital admission.
- Serious illness where treatment at home is in keeping with the person’s wishes as part of a pre-agreed treatment escalation plan.
- Patient in receipt of palliative care who may in a crisis wish to be treated at home or usual place of residence as part of a pre-agreed treatment escalation plan rather than be admitted to hospital. This will be with the full understanding that the same level of diagnostics and support may not be provided in the community.
This service is operational 7 days per week 8am – 8pm and can be accessed by calling SPL 07149 836700 option 1. The UCR service is delivered by district nurses, including advanced clinical practitioner’s and rapid response teams across the county.
If you aren’t sure whether a patient might be suitable, please call the Somerset Primary Link who will be able to advise you.
