Dear Care Provider Colleagues,
Welcome to this week's briefing.
This week in the briefing: a request for involvement in our next Proud to Care campaign, #JustACarer?, some resources shared for Falls Prevention Week, a request for volunteers for the pilot of our new Quality Assurance system, a job ad for Trusted Assessor with the RCPA, an update from the Capacity Tracker, and some new events!

We Need You: #JustACarer?
We are preparing for a recruitment campaign this autumn to tackle the staffing challenges we know many of you are facing.
We are proposing a bold, provocative campaign centred around the hashtag #JustACarer? which will challenge social perceptions of care and highlight the diverse and fulfilling work you do on a day-to-day basis. You aren’t 'just' carers, and caring isn't 'just' a job - we know how important your work really is, how dedicated you are, and we want to show the general public the value of what you do and wide range of what caring entails. It's not just cups of tea and personal care!
We are in the early stages of planning and procuring this and we want your suggestions and input to developing a strong campaign which will make people sit up and take notice. We're also looking for real care sector staff to feature in the campaign, so please get in touch with us if you are interested in this. It's a great opportunity to show off what you do, and the enormous social value of your work.

PAMMS Pilot - Volunteers sought
Dear Care Provider colleagues,
We are contacting you as we would like to offer you the opportunity to take part in the pilot project. We will also have some direct discussions about this opportunity with providers who already have quality visits planned in the coming weeks.
Below is a video that gives an overview of the system.
Your experience of the new QA system and approach in your role as a local Care Provider is vital in helping us to understand how PAMMS works in practice and will help inform future roll-out plans here and across the region.
The pilot project will consist of a provider self-assessment and/or a Quality assurance review completed by our Quality Assurance team using the tools available in the PAMMS system.
Next steps and timeframes:
- Once signed up, login information and how to guides will be shared with volunteer providers
- A quality assurance officer will be assigned to your service for support which can be in person, email, phone or video calls.
- The pilot phase will run from late September to early 2023
- Organisation name
- Contact details for the individual supporting the project
We are very grateful for your support in progressing this activity and supporting us in discharging our statutory duties under the Care Act in relation to care market oversight and contract management.

Capacity Tracker Changes
This is a rundown of the key changes you’ll see when you log on to Capacity Tracker later next week.
New Questions | Care Homes and Home Care
- For both care homes and home care, there will be a new section on Workforce Capacity
- For home care only, this will include a new section about Packages of Care
The questions are being included to help identify trends in pressures across the sector. Please note these will become part of the mandated data submission in December. You can find more information by clicking here.
There is also a change to the wording of the question about home care service users, to make it clear that this number should include anyone currently registered for care from an agency regardless of whether they are receiving care on the day of reporting.
The updates mean there will be changes to the following reports and associated csv files. More detail will follow at the time of release:
- Workforce
- ASC Home Care Collection
Any question that is part of the mandatory data submission for DHSC will now be identified with a red asterisk.
We have focussed on making this process more user-friendly and streamlined. Details will follow at the time of release.
With kind regards Capacity Tracker Team on behalf of DHSC & NHSE/I

This webinar is aimed at frontline managers and it will reflect on what we can expect from the upcoming winter period and how best to prepare.
It will bring together managers from a range of services to talk through how they are developing contingencies for the winter period and practical ways they are looking at to protect themselves from the impact of staffing challenges, cost of living increases, the ongoing pandemic and other issues.
With live panel discussions and debate, the webinar will provide the opportunity to ask questions and learn of different approaches other services are adopting for the winter ahead.
